Five Explorations

Guitar (1988)

The Five Explorations were written for Richard Hand, who gave the first performance at the British Music Information Centre in London on 19 October 1989.

Dickinson had not written for the guitar before so he borrowed an instrument and worked out these textures, using similar material for his more complex Cellars Clough Duo (1988) for two guitars, and similar techniques in his very simple Suffolk Variations (1992)

1. Bell sounds in a landscape
2. Fragments of Latin-American music
3. An Elegy
4. Bells again
5. A moto perpetuo in varied metres
