Swan Songs

Cello and piano (1992)

Commissioned by Penelope Lynex who had given many performances of Threnody (1956), and recorded it.

This work alternates a blues with rapid passages eventually reaching a quote from The Swan, No. 13 in The Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saens.

The first performance was given by Lynex and Alexander Wells in the Purcell Room on 6 December 1994.
